Active School Partnerships

Partnerships:

Pupils

Our pupils have a lead role in our Active Schools campaign. We have a very busy Active Schools Committee who meet up every week to discuss Active School matters. We share ideas for getting our whole school up and moving as often as possible. We also circulate important information to other classes and teachers. Each pupil in our school took part in whole-school survey from the Active School website. Our Active School Committee and teachers studied these surveys and analyzed the feedback to make plans for more activities. Our first class pupils are also involved in bringing out and putting away the sports equipment that we use during lunch breaks (skipping ropes, hurdles, footballs, basketballs, cones, toys and bricks.

Parents

Parent questionnaires were sent out to parents on 11th April 2019. In the questionnaires we invited parents to volunteer during Active School Week.

Local Community

We invite sports clubs, athletes and coaches from the local community to talk to the boys or to give taster sessions of their area of expertise. We have coaching sessions from Plunkett’s G.A.A. on a weekly basis. We also welcomed players from the Dublin Senior Football Team to our school to celebrate their All-Ireland win. It’s also important to get out and be active in our local community. Our pupils and teachers like to get moving by going on walks to the local park, be it for our ‘Witchy Walk’ at Halloween, our Lá Fheile Pádraig parade or our annual sponsored walk. In the lead up to summer, we also take a walk to Ashtown Castle.

National Agencies

Earlier this year, the boys got involved in a skipping workshop ran by Skip ‘n’ Rope Ireland. This workshop focused on agility, balance, rhythm and hand-eye co-ordination. We are also fortunate to avail of weekly coaching sessions from Basketball Ireland, which the boys enjoy very much. The boys like to practice the skills they have learned in these sessions with the basketball hoops in the yard at lunchtimes. Two of our teachers have also been attending the Move Well, Move Often workshops run by the P.D.S.T. Our teachers then share the information and resources from the workshop with the staff.
